Seriously, Jet Set Radio Future is an absolute gem of the old generation, even though it felt like I was playing a literal interpretation of a fever dream, yet that’s why I loved it so much. The fact that you spray painted people to death kinda creeps me out now, since I’m about 12 years older than I once was, but it was still a pretty cool mechanic. Moreover, the art style was really one of a kind at the time, and even though the story was extremely nonsensical, I still enjoyed it, even with the atrocious lip synching. I understand that they can’t make the games backwards compatible due to music lincensing issues (also an amazing part of the series, that music was extremely catchy, even though hearing it 100+ times made you want to rip your ears off). Come on Microsoft, if you reveal a new Jet Set Radio at E3, you win my adoration for the year. SEGA has started to understand that they don’t have the capability or capacity to make these games people want anymore.

The biggest example was NiGHTS 2 where they tried and the talent who made the original game just isn’t there anymore.With Sonic Mania and Streets of Rage 4 being essentially official fan projects, the idea of them giving JSR to a passionate team seems higher than usual. Hideki Naganuma (who did the soundtrack) has been very vocal on Twitter about how he would love to see JSR resurrected but SEGA Japan doesn’t recognise the potential in its fan base. Apparently, according to him, SEGA America is aware which is why we have been seeing JSR pop up in mobile games and merch as of late.So.maybe? It’s more possible now than I was 10 years ago.
